Robbins Chosen to Work with Deer Run to Find Sewer Solution
Property owners in the Deer Run area are desperate for a sewer solution. Several homes and campgrounds are served by an existing, private sewer system, that is aging. Given the proximity to the Current River, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been closely monitoring the sewer system. Following a community meeting on May 29, 2014, to address the sewer problems, the message was clear – move forward. The Deer Run community began working with Stan Schultz and David Stinson of Schultz Engineering to find a long terms solution. The group turned to Scott Robbins for help with selecting the proper legal structure.
On July 28, 2014, Robbins and a group from Deer Run met with the Carter County Commission to seek approval of the formation of the Deer Run Reorganized Common Sewer District. After discussion, the Commission voted unanimously to allow the group to file a petition with the Carter County Circuit Court, seeking the formation of the district. A hearing has been set for August 25, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in front of Judge Michael J. Ligons, to determine if the sewer district is in the best interest of the public. Notice of the hearing will run in the Current Local on July 31 and August 7, 2014. A copy of the notice can be seen here.
If the petition is granted by the Court, a formation election will be held on November 4, 2014. If a simple majority of voters approve of the district’s formation, the district will immediately apply for state and federal loan and grant dollars to address the sewer problems in the area. The primary funding agencies would be DNR, Missouri Department of Economic Development, through its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Rural Development.
