Thanksgiving 2024

We often are caught up in the day-to-day concerns and forget to consider our many blessings, those so called “little things”: a thank you note; your teenager wanting to spend time with you without electronic devices being involved; our health; enjoying a roof over our heads; being productive at work; family, both biological and those friends we call extended family; and gas prices falling.

Most of us have time to count our blessings, but we get so busy that we forget to take the time to do so. The reality is that, even here in America, there are people who are not as fortunate. For some, their struggle is with finances, food and a place to call home. The United Gospel Rescue Mission plans to serve more than 1,000 people with a Thanksgiving dinner this year. For others, the challenges include physical health, mental health or work problems, including having to work on Thanksgiving, for example.

Our office will be closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, November 29, 2024, so that our attorneys and staff can celebrate with family and friends. We include our clients in our many reasons to be thankful this year and look forward to continuing to serve you when the office re-opens on December 2.

Here is some turkey trivia and a recipe to try this year:

Turkey Trivia

The average weight of a turkey purchased at Thanksgiving is 15 pounds.
The heaviest turkey ever raised was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog.
A 15 pound turkey usually has about 70 percent white meat and 30 percent dark meat.

A large group of turkeys is called a flock.
Turkeys have poor night vision.
It takes 75-80 pounds of feed to raise a 30 pound tom turkey.
A 16-week-old turkey is called a fryer. A five to seven month old turkey is called a young roaster.
